Fees due to the Public Guardian

A fee might be required for registering your power of attorney document or for some of the other services we provide. The majority of our fees are due at the time of making an application to us. There are certain circumstances where you might be entitled to a fee exemption

The Scottish Statutory Instrument 2022 No.184 outlines the fees payable to the Office of the Public Guardian.

Schedule 3 details all fees payable from 1st April 2024 onwards

Methods of payment

Cheques

  • We will accept cheques made payable to the 'Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service' for all applications.

BACS transfer

  • You can pay fees relating to guardianship orders, intervention orders and the access to funds scheme by BACS transfer.
  1. Payments are made to 'Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service'; sorting code: 83-20-32 account number: 00650476
  2. When making your payment please quote your PG reference so that your payment can be identified and matched to your case
  3. You will need to confirm in your covering letter / email to us that you have paid via BACS transfer and the date the payment was made
  • Please note that we are currently unable to issue refunds by BACS transfer. Refunds are issued by cheque and can take up to 10 working days to process.

Credit/debit card

  • We can also accept payment by credit or debit card (we do not accept AMEX card payments) for all applications with exception of clerically submitted powers of attorney. Please contact us with your card details.
  • If you are coming into the office to pay with your card, please note that we use World Pay to process card payments.

Cash

  • Please do not send cash in the post. If opting to come into the office to pay your fee, please bring the exact fee amount, as we do not keep cash or change in the office.
