Requests to Expedite a PoA Registration

Jun 27, 2017

At any given time there are thousands of PoA’s awaiting registration, in May 2017 this figure was approximately 17,000.  We appreciate that in some cases there is a genuine need for a PoA to be urgently processed due to the granter’s needs and that when there are longer waiting times there is a greater chance of an expedite being sought.

If you wish to make an application to have a PoA expedited you must provide a reason why your PoA requires to be processed more urgently than the other PoAs waiting in the queue.  Whilst it is not a requirement to provide private and personal information within the request, sufficient information is required to show the justification of why this case has been given priority over others.  Often requests will be received that advise that the granter is elderly and/or frail, which in itself does not demonstrate the urgent need as to why the PoA is required urgently.  The vast majority of our customers could be classed as elderly and/or frail and as such could not be expedited on that basis alone.

To request the expedited registration of a PoA please email OPG@scotcourts.gov.uk and provide details as to why the registration is required urgently.  The request will be considered and either granted or refused.  If the request is refused you will receive an email confirming this.  If the request is granted, the PoA will be processed within 5 working days.
