Despite a slight reduction, the numbers of powers of attorney rejected remains a cause for concern.  This represents powers of attorney submitted that do not
comply with the provisions laid  out at part 2 of the Act. On average around 1 in 7 powers of attorney submitted have to be returned because they require amendment.
We are working with professionals such as solicitors to reduce this.  Numbers processed include powers of attorney carried forward from the previous month as work
in progress.
* This figure we know is not accurate and we are working with our system provider to remedy this.

Welfare = welfare powers only granted.  Continuing = financial powers only granted.  Both = welfare and financial powers granted.
There has been a marked shift over the last 6 years as to the types of powers granted.  In 2001/02, only 29% of granters elected to include welfare powers.
In 2003/04  this had risen to 48% and by 2007/08 to 82%.  Of powers of attorney registered since 2001, 37% are by males and 63% by females. (information as at
April 08).  The vast majority of power of attorney are granted by persons aged 60+, indeed 80% of granters fall into this category.  Only 0.5% of deeds registered
relate to persons aged 16-30.
