The number of applications rejected continues to cause concern.  This represents powers of attorney submitted that do not comply with the provisions laid out at
part 2 of the Act.  On average around 1 in 5 powers of attorney submitted have to be returned because they require amendment. We are working with professionals
professionals such as solicitors to reduce this.   Numbers processed include powers of attorney carried forward from the previous month as work in progress.

Welfare = welfare powers only granted.  Continuing = financial powers only granted.  Both = welfare and financial powers granted.
There has been a marked shift over the last 5 years as to the types of powers granted.  In 2001/02, only 29% of granters elected to include welfare powers.  In
2003/04 this had risen to 48% and 2005/06 to 65%.  Of powers of attorney registered since 2001, 36% are by males and 64% by females. (information as at
April 06).  The vast majority of power of attorney are exercised by persons aged 60+, indeed 80% of granters fall into this category.  Only 1% of deeds registered
relate to persons aged 16-30.
